Constitution of the Columbia Chapter in the South Carolina Music Teachers Association
Article I: Name The name of the organization shall be the Columbia Music Teachers Association, the Chapter in the South Carolina Music Teachers Association.
Article II: Object Section 1: The object of the Association shall be the enhancement of the art of teaching musical skills and understanding. Section 2: Activities of the Association are aimed at the promotion of the art of music and the appreciation of musical performance among the peoples of this community. Section 3: The Association will strive to cooperate with the various organizations which directly affect the cause of music.
Section 4: CMTA is not organized for profit and no part of its net earnings inures to the benefit of any private individual.
Section 5: In the event of the dissolution of this organization, any funds remaining in the treasury after the payment of any outstanding debts shall be contributed to a non-profit organization which qualifies under the Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code, such as the MTNA Scholarship Foundation.
Article III: Membership Section 1: Membership classification in the Association shall be: Active, Student, Corporate, and Senior. Section 2: Membership privileges and dues are prescribed by the bylaws of the Association.
Article IV: Affiliation All members of the Chapter shall be required to hold membership in the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association.
Article V: Officers Section 1: The elected officers of the Association shall be as follows: President, President Elect, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer. Section 2: Procedures for the election of officers are specified in the bylaws of the Association.
Article VI: Meetings There shall be seven meetings a year of the Association, to be held the months of September, October, November, January, February, March and April.
Article VII: Quorum A quorum at any regular or special meeting of the Association shall consist of one third of the active membership.
Article VIII: Fiscal Year The fiscal year shall be the same as the membership year, beginning July 1 and ending June 30.
Article IX: Amendments The constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the active members present and voting, proving that a notice of such intended amendment has been submitted to the membership at a previous regularly scheduled meeting prior to the voting. Such notice shall state the amendment to be considered.
